Description

We investigate the spatial second-order correlation function of two scattering electrons in a Hanbury Brown-Twiss like experiment. First, we consider semi-classically the effects of the Pauli exclusion principle and Coulomb repulsion on the expected correlation pattern. This is followed by a full quantum treatment of the problem. We start with fermionic field operators in the Heisenberg picture and translate the problem into a two-particle Coulomb scattering problem. There, we separate the system into relative and center-of-mass coordinates in analogy to the Hydrogen atom ansatz. While the center-of-mass system is described as a free particle, the relative system contains the Coulomb scattering process, which reduces it to an effective one-particle problem. We expand the respective initial state of the electrons in the eigenstates of the corresponding Hamiltonian and evolve the system in time. After the scattering process, the function is then evaluated in the far field. We present the formal solution of the problem and discuss the current state of the numerical investigations.
